Perinatal Mental Health and Risk of Severe Maternal Morbidity in Women With Physical Disabilities

In this journal club session, participants reviewed the article “Perinatal Mental Health and Risk of Severe Maternal Morbidity in Women with Physical Disabilities.” Through this journal club, participants summarized the association between perinatal mental health conditions, physical disabilities, and severe maternal morbidity. Participants also analyzed how intersecting clinical and social vulnerabilities may amplify maternal risk during pregnancy and delivery and discussed clinical and policy-level opportunities to improve screening, coordination, and risk mitigation for pregnant people with disabilities.

This Page to Practice session provided an overview of the 2018 ARRIVE Trial on elective induction at 39 weeks in low risk, first time patients and its impact on clinical practice and patient counseling. Throughout the webinar, participants explored trends since the trial, including increasing rates of elective induction, changes in cesarean outcomes, and the ongoing discussions around its widespread use in real-world settings. Participants also focused on practical, patient-centered counseling strategies, helping clinicians translate evidence into clear, balanced conversations that support shared decision-making, address common misconceptions, and guide individualized care for diverse patient populations.

In this journal club session, participants reviewed the article titled “Addressing Perinatal Mood and Anxiety Disorders in Obstetric Settings: Results of a Cluster RCT of Two Approaches.” This session allowed participants to discuss the differences between the two obstetric-based intervention models evaluated in the article along with their core components, implementation strategies, and intended outcomes for addressing perinatal mood and anxiety disorders. Participants also evaluated facilitators and barriers to equitable perinatal mental health care delivery and considered opportunities to adapt and integrate effective perinatal mood and anxiety disorder screening and treatment approaches into their own obstetric or perinatal care settings.
